This sleek coupe was born from the 1965 Charger II concept car and released the following year as a production model. The first generation Dodge Charger shares the concept’s distinctive fastback styling, long hood, and short rear deck. Its look is totally unmistakable. And yet, it was fairly practical. Part luxury car, part muscle car, the Dodge Charger was the kind of car for the family man as well as those geared for performance. The 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is the center of attention in this edition of the Muscle Car Showcase. Beaten to the punch, late for the party, and right place at the wrong time are just a few expressions that define the Challenger’s entry into the fiercely competitive pony car market. It arrived five years after the Mustang’s introduction and was released at a time when the muscle car was coming under fire by Uncle Sam and the insurance companies. The 1970 Challenger was Dodge’s way of giving both entities the middle finger and coming out with its own pony car anyway. The 1970-1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda is the star of this edition of the Muscle Car Showcase. For 1970, the ‘Cuda was all-new. The ‘Cuda’s pretty boy looks and fastback styling from the 1960s were now gone. In its place was a combatant with a more aggressive design and features, ready to take on what the Camaro SS 396 and Mustang Boss 429 could dish out. In this edition of the Muscle Car Showcase, we’ll explore the 1964-1969 Plymouth Barracuda. This scrappy little fish was the original pony car, making waves in the muscle car world two weeks prior to the Mustang. Some may say this generation of the Barracuda is the Rodney Dangerfield of the early pony cars. It just doesn’t get the respect it deserves. However, this sporty fastback sank its teeth into the other pony cars every chance it got. It may have been a small fish in a large pond but we think this overlooked car is worth checking out. In this edition of the Muscle Car Showcase, we’ll explore the 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Introduced as a concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, this Camaro features retro styling cues fused with modern technology. Its long hood, sculpted fenders, and rear tail lamps are reminiscent of the 1969 model, yet the engine and powertrain are packed with modern-day technology. For those that believed the Camaro died in 2002, this new iteration was welcomed by Camaro enthusiasts everywhere when it was unleashed in April 2009. 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird

The year was 1969. Plymouth had just lost one of its best NASCAR drivers. Richard Petty, believing that Plymouths were no longer competitive on the track, joined forces with Ford for the 1969 racing season. During his 11-year involvement with Plymouth, Petty had won two national championships and 101 victories, 92 of them courtesy of Plymouth. Now, Plymouth really wanted to get him back. In an effort to win back Petty’s loyalty, they created one of the most radical cars to ever race on a NASCAR track. Created by the same team that produced the Dodge Daytona, an 18-inch aerodynamic nose cone was placed on the front and a sweptback wing was fashioned on the rear of the Road Runner. Dubbed the Superbird, this car was ready to take flight around the speedways and take on the best that Chevy and Ford had to offer. Did the effort pay off? You bet it did!
