Fifty Years of the Chevrolet Camaro

Fifty years ago, Chevrolet introduced a car that would become one of the most revered vehicles in its sports car lineup. Code named XP-836, the Camaro was Chevrolet’s contender in what would become one of the hottest segments in the automotive industry. The Camaro was Chevrolet’s entry into the pony car market that was wildly popular in the 1960s. It’s been said the word Camaro is derived from the French language meaning friend or comrade. That’s a pretty fitting way to describe a car that’s been a companion with many of us for half a century. Let’s turn back the clock and look back at 50 years of classic Camaros. Smokey and the Bandit 40th Anniversary Festival

Tommy’s Car Blog was on hand during the Smokey and the Bandit 40th Anniversary Festival in Jonesboro, Georgia this past June. The city of Jonesboro teamed up with the Burt Reynolds Institute, Restore a Muscle Car, The Bandit Run, and the Snowman’s Run to host this year’s event. Jonesboro was one of the main filming locations of the movie and a great place to hold the event. There was plenty to see and do including a Burt Reynolds look-a-like contest and a recreation of the bridge jump held at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Read the rest of this entry

The Mystique of the Pontiac GTO – Part 1

The Pontiac GTO is considered by many to be the car that started the muscle car revolution in the early 1960s. The GTO was the brainchild of Pontiac madmen John DeLorean, Russ Gee, and Bill Collins. Their premise was simple — create a budget-friendly muscle car that would appeal to the younger, performance-oriented enthusiast. Their gamble paid off better than they ever imagined. The Pontiac GTO created a firestorm that set the standard for what a muscle car can and should be. Muscle Cars at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show

2017 North American International Auto Show

The 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit is the first major auto show of the new year. The Motor City hosts one of the best shows for muscle car lovers and this year’s event was no exception. The Big Three were well represented and there were a few surprises that caught our attention as well. The temperature outside may have been in the teens but our enthusiasm heated up once we got inside Cobo Hall. There was so much to see and experience during the two-day media preview. The 2016 Ford Focus RS is the latest addition to the TCB Garage. Ever since the Focus RS was announced last March, we’ve wanted to get behind the wheel of one of these compact titans. With all the hoopla surrounding the car, we wanted to see if it really lived up to the hype. With that in mind, we spent several days putting the Focus RS through its paces on a variety of different road conditions. Everywhere from our daily commute to some winding country back roads. The great thing about the Los Angeles Auto Show is that it marks the beginning of auto show season. We’ve been counting the days to the show and anxious to get up close and personal with some of the hottest new and vintage muscle during media days at this year’s spectacle. This year’s show definitely didn’t disappoint! The Los Angeles Convention Center was abuzz with plenty of fresh muscle from the Big Three and other vendors.
