This past Saturday, three serial number 001 Corvettes were up for grabs at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. This exceptional trio was sold as a package with famed Corvette aficionado and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick taking these treasures home. His winning bid of $1,815,000 sealed the deal for this exceptional threesome.
This Polo White convertible is not only the first 1955 Corvette built, it also holds the distinction of being the first Corvette to come with a V8 engine and a 12-volt electrical system. This beauty was subjected to a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration and nabbed NCRS Top Flight honors in 2008.
Check out this 1956 model. It sports new and revamped styling and comes with the Corvette’s first dual 4-barrel V8 setup. It is also the first production power convertible top Vette and the first production example to feature power windows.
This Cascade Green 1957 model was the first car to feature the 283 cubic-inch engine. It also features a PowerGlide transmission, power convertible top, and Wonder Bar radio. And just like the 1955 model, it also received a NCRS Top Flight with a score of 97.4.
